Sunplug is based in France. This is what it collects, why, and how to get rid of it.

What it collects

Your site's powerSolar, grid, house and battery, every thirty seconds

Your carsCharge level, whether plugged in, charging rate, and whether it's at home

Your home's locationTo know when a car is at home, and to forecast your solar production

Your accountName, email, a passkey — never a password

Equipment credentialsEncrypted, used only to read your system

Why

To do the thing you signed up for: work out your surplus and charge your cars with it. That is the legal basis — performing the service you asked for, not consent that could be withdrawn while your car is mid-charge.

Your home's location is used for two things: to know when a car is at home, and to forecast your solar production.

What it does not do

Sell your data, or share it for advertising
Track you across other websites
Use third-party analytics, trackers or advertising cookies
Store your equipment passwords in readable form

Who else sees it

Sunplug's servers are run by European hosting providers and located in the European Union. Your data is stored and processed there. Cloudflare handles DNS. None of them does anything with your data beyond running the infrastructure.

Today, all accounts are hosted in Europe. If Sunplug opens servers in North America, customers there will be hosted there, and this page will say so before anything moves. European customers will always stay on a European server.

Your equipment's manufacturers — Tesla, Enphase, Sungrow and so on — see the requests Sunplug makes on your behalf, under their own privacy policies. You granted that access and can withdraw it directly with them.

Open-Meteo supplies the weather for your solar forecast. Sunplug asks it for an area of about 1 km around your home, never your address.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for all of it to be deleted. Deleting your account also revokes Sunplug's access to your car and inverter accounts — it does not leave a live token behind.

Email contact@sunplug.app and I will do it. If you are unhappy with how it was handled, you can complain to the CNIL, France's data protection authority.

A note on what this data is

Detailed electricity readings say more than they look like they do — when you wake, when you are out, how many of you there are. Sunplug samples every few seconds, which is finer than a smart meter. It is treated accordingly: kept on servers in Europe, not shared, and deleted when you ask.
